My first letter

I was told that the correspondence process would take six months. That was way too long! And patience was something that I didn't have at the time of signing up to be a sponsor. I was excited. After sending off my first letter to my child sometime in July, I had forgotten about the wait, and was only sporadically triggered when I received Compassion's newsletters or various other related publications in my mailbox.

The day came when I was pleasantly surprised to receive my first letter from my sponsor child's parents a few days ago. Of course, Harpy is only six but loves to draw and play with toy guns! Gulp! Hopefully not in a bad way, haha, but like typical boys who like to shoot and play dead. And my beautiful Harpy drew me a love heart. I am extremely humbled by the fact that this family is interested to know more about myself, of which I definitely need more space and more paper than the single-page template letter suggesting that I keep it short than babble on.

So before you splurge on that nice pretty dress or that expensive pair of shoes, think of others less fortunate who will appreciate even your loose change hidden in the depths of your pockets.

I totally support Compassion and have a sponsor child (actually a 14 year old boy) from Haiti. While I don't get to receive letters full of pictures and drawings, it is still very nice to receive a hand-written letter from someone on the other side of the globe.

Good on you for sponsoring some kid half way across the globe. I've been looking to sponsor a little boy from China through World Vision but haven't filled up the forms yet! I really should stop procrastinating! Why can't World Vision have online forms?

Don't they have online forms? I thought you can do it over the phone too, no?
